The City of Bremen Board of Education today announces its intention to increase the 2026 property taxes it will levy this year by 7.62 percent for city parcels in Haralson County and by 11.44 percent for city parcels in Carroll County over the rollback millage rate.
Each year, the board of tax assessors is required to review the assessed value of taxable property in the city for property tax purposes. When the trend in prices of properties that have recently sold in the city indicates an increase in the fair market value of a specific property, the board of tax assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of that property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment.
When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.
The millage rate tentatively adopted by the City of Bremen Board of Education will be 14.35 mills, an increase of 0.85 mills from the previous 2025 rate of 13.50 mills, and still less than the 14.95-mill rate in 2024. Before the City of Bremen Board of Education may set a final millage rate that is higher than the rollback rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Bremen Board of Education, 501 Pacific Avenue, Bremen, GA, on October 16, 2026, at 7:00 a.m., October 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., and October 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The millage rate will be set on October 26, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
