We are looking forward to a new and exciting year!!
Language Arts
Spelling: Students
have 10 words each week. We practice the words each day and have a test on
Fridays.
Grammar: Students
are learning about correct sentence structure and telling and naming parts of a
sentence. Students are also learning about contractions, compound words, nouns
(naming words), verbs (action words).
Phonics: Students
are learning about rhyming words, sounds, blends, diagraphs, vowels, blending
& phonics rules.
Journals: Students
are writing in their individual journals. They are working on writing complete
sentences to create a story.
Accelerated Reader: Students read a book during our AR
time and complete a short quiz about the story. These quizzes help check for
comprehension. Points are calculated for each quiz
and students are rewarded as points accumulate.
Math
In
Math we have a new program from Harcourt Publishers. This math program has aligned all of first
grade Georgia Performance Standards.
This organizes math skills that are necessary for first graders. There
are many opportunities for hands-on instruction. Some of the concepts we will
be learning about are addition, subtraction, money, numbers to 100, measurement
& time.
Social Studies & Science
Social
Studies & Science are taught throughout the year in various units. These
lessons cover the state required objectives for 1st Grade.
General Info: Don’t forget our library day is Thursday.
Be sure to return your books so you can check out a new book!
