All About Me!!!

Hi!  Bremen Academy students and parents, I’m Mrs.  Lisa Maxwell.  I teach fifth grade science and Academic Connections.  This year marks my sixteenth year teaching for Bremen City Schools.  I taught in Douglas County for ten years prior to coming to Bremen, so this year in my twenty-sixth year as an educator.  I’ve taught fifth, sixth, seventh, and eight grade, but fifth grade is my favorite grade level.   I try to use many hand-on activities and experiments to provide all students will an enriching science  experience.  I feel very passionate about environmental education, and work to help make my students become better stewards of our planet by including environmental lessons and projects in the Science Club, that I co-sponsor with Mrs.  York.

I  grew up on a small farm in Glenlock, Georgia,  and attended Roopville Elementary School.  I graduated from Central High School in Carrollton.  Cheerleading, Newspaper Staff, 4-H, and Science Club kept me very busy during high-school.   I received my BS and Masters in Educations from the State University of West Georgia.   I’m also certified in Gifted Education and hold an Reading Endorsement.  During my summer months I take workshops to learn fresh teaching ideas to motivate  my students.

I’ve been married to my husband, Rhudy Maxwell, for twenty-eight years.   He shares my love of nature and animals.  We do not have children, so we treat our pets like our children.  We have two horses, four dogs, and a kitten.   I am a longtime horsewomen , and have enjoyed riding all my life.   Rhudy and I love to white-water raft.  We’ve made two trips to Idaho to raft the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.  On one trip I fell out of my kayak and was trapped under a rapid.  The guides had to rescue me!

We also love to SCUBA dive, and have taken many dive trips over the past twenty years.  My favorite dive was with the sting-rays at Grand Caymen.  One of the rays landed on my head and sucked my hair up!

I treasure time I spend with my family, and enjoy spending time playing with my nieces and nephews.  This summer I began teaching them to swim.

Reading is another favorite hobby.  I usually have two or three started at the same time.  One of my most prized possessions is the first book I ever bought.  I bought it at the school book fair when I has in kindergarten!

I also love all types of music, classic rock and blues are my favorite.   One of my goals is to learn to play my Fender guitar.

Well, enough about me, I better get back to grading papers.

Have a Great year at Bremen Academy!

Mrs,  Maxwell
