Mrs. Vines and Mrs. Dehabra – Week of April 13^th and April 20^th

This week’s skills

For the next 2 weeks, and really the rest of the school year, we will continue working on blending sounds to make words, writing skills, sight words, and reading skills.

Math skills for April and May will be simple adding, and number combinations,fractions, story problems, and simple subtraction.

Current afternoon units for upcoming weeks will be spring, maps and globes, plants, rocks & soils, and gravity.

Reminders

*Please continue to work on sight words and your take-home readers.

*Thanks for being so cooperative about picking up due to the power outage!

*We hope you had a blessed and happy Easter.

News

*We will have RAD day (READ ALL DAY) this Friday, April 17^th. Your child can bring several of their favorite books and a towel or small blanket in their book bag. We will read books during the morning and watch a movie that afternoon.

*Our field trip is this Thursday. Your child will need to bring a sack lunch in a throw away bag with their name on it. We will provide a drink for each child. Parents attending the trip will need to bring their own lunch and drinks. You can keep your child’s lunch with yours if you like, just let us know. Allow your child to wear their field trip t-shirt.

Other

*Our CAMP class will be PE in the lower gym with Coach Pirch. Please wear tennis shoes. We will have PE until April 17^th!

On April 20^th we will go to computer.

*Library day on Friday. Return your library books on or before Friday morning. We probably won’t check out books this week.

Character Stars

This year our school is trying something new to recognize character stars. Each month the entire school will be recognizing a specific character trait that will be talked about and encouraged in the classroom. If a teacher “catches” a child going above and beyond the call of duty to show that character trait, their name is placed on a coupon in our “character can” in our classroom. Children can be given a coupon on more than one occasion. At the end of the month, one name is drawn out of the “character can” from each homeroom. That child will win as character star for the month, and will have a celebration at a designated time with other kindergarten winners on the lunchroom stage with Mrs. Costley, our school’s guidance counselor .

SEPTEMBER--RESPONSIBILITY

*We had several names in our “character can” for showing responsibility. Each one of these friends were able to choose a prize from our treasure basket on the last day of this month. The winner drawn from our class for Responsibility was-----

What’s Happening?

*For a $1 donation students can buy a hat sticker on Friday and wear a hat at school. Proceeds go to our Drug Awareness program.

*Our Easter Party will be Friday, April 3^rd. We will have an egg hunt most likely at 10:30 and lunch afterward. *Spring Break is April 6^th-April 10^th.
