To
Parents:
Welcome
to Jones Elementary
School
Media
Center
Accelerated
Reader Policy and Procedures
- Students
are welcome to come to the media center to take AR tests before and after
school in addition to the school day.
Tests can be taken before school beginning at 7:40 and after school until 3:20.
- Our AR
program is now accessed from the internet.
Students can still only take tests at school. The program will not allow them to take
tests at home.
- Parents
are welcome in the media center! You may help your child find the title,
but please do not assist them in any way with the answers or in reading
the test questions/answers.
Students may not look up answers in the book. (Grades 2-3)
- You
are welcome to read the newspaper, look at magazines or books while your
child works on their test independently.
- Students
should have read the book carefully before taking the test. Mrs. Perkins reminds the students to ask
about words or information in the story they don’t understand before they
take the test. A student must be
able to read confidently alone to successfully take an AR test.
- Students
need to know their username and password.
Tests should be taken on books that are on the student’s assigned
reading level as determined by their STAR test and teacher recommendation.
- When a
student has finished the test, he/she should log out of their name.
- Thank
you for taking an interest in your child’s reading!
Deadline to earn points to qualify for AR
day is April 24, 2009.
Our version of
AR has a parent program. This feature
allows parents to log into the program from a computer with internet access and
view their child’s reading activity in AR.
You may send a note or email Mrs. Perkins if you would like to access
the program. You may also click on
Parent on the Welcome screen of the AR website, then click on Request Parent
Access. She will respond with your
username and password. Her email address
is keri.perkins@bremencs.com

Other reminders:
Students should only be taking tests now on books they are
reading in school right now.
Once students take a test they can not take the test
again. Their test lists will go with
them to the academy and middle school.
Teachers encourage students to participate in Accelerated
Reader. Reading
on their levels will help them become better readers. We also provide incentives to encourage and
reward their hard work. AR is a program
in which they do need to motivate themselves to be successful. We want reading to be enjoyable for them as
well as a learning experience.
We will have a small store set up for students to use their
points to purchase prizes. If points are
in their “used” column they have spent those points on prizes. (The points still count toward Super Reader
Day, a.k.a. AR Day.)
