Getting Ready for Second Grade

We have not stopped academics. More children are reading Chapter books. We are competing individually on timed math facts. All children have made a 100 on 100 addition facts. After completing this they work on 100 subtraction facts, and then 200 addition and subtraction facts in ten minutes. After this mastery they move on to double digit addition and subtraction and then adding with regrouping and subtraction with borrowing. I want each child to reach his/her full potential. Also our grading is being done differently on class work. In the past, Mrs. Lisa graded individual work and returned it to be corrected. However, the children are now expected to know what to do and do it correct the first time. I go over the directions and explain each sheet. At times correct answers are written on the board. They are expected to go back and correct their papers. We are writing notes on many of the papers to let you know if following directions or not making corrections are a problem. Please review your child’s papers and discuss their work with them in order to help prepare them for Second Grade.
