Syllabus for Health Occupations I

Objectives: 

This class is designed to explore the many careers in the medical field.

It introduces the fundamentals of healthcare science.

 

Grading:  Exams/Quizzes       40%
                  Skills                       20%
                  Research Paper       10%
                  Portfolio                 10%
                  Midterm                 10%
                  Final                       10%

Supplies:  Notebook, Pen, Paper, and Textbook

Textbook:  Diversified Health Occupations, 6th edition, Delmar Publishers, 2004.

Behavior:  As BHS students we will be representing our school to our entire community.  We will maintain appropriate behavior.  We will not be allowed to continue trips to the hospital if our behavior is not superior.  Alternative work will be assigned if behavior is unacceptable.  Confidentiality must be maintained.  Any breech in confidentiality will result in removal from all trips.

 

     I have read the above and agree to follow our school’s behavior guidelines.  I understand that I may be held liable if I break confidentiality laws.  I also understand that there is some risk involved in caring for patients, however, I will follow the instructor’s directions for infection control to protect myself as well as the patients.

Objectives: 

1. To allow hands on experience at different health locations.

2. To experience the skills of a healthcare worker.

3. To demonstrate knowledge of healthcare careers as verified by exams and performance check-offs.

 

Grading:  Exams/Quizzes       40%
                  Skills                       20%
                  Research Paper       10%
                  Portfolio                 10%
                  Midterm                 10%
                  Final                       10%

Supplies:  Notebook, Pen, Paper, Textbook, Scrubs-$20.00, CPR Card-$5.00.

Textbook:  Diversified Health Occupations, 6th edition, Delmar Publishers, 2004.

                           Up to date immunizations
                           Tuberculosis Skin Test (Provided by Health Department)
