FIRST RESPONDER SYLLABUS
TEACHER: Gail Nowlin, RN
DESCRIPTION OF CLASS: This class is designed for the students who are interested in the emergency medical field. The major goal of the class is to teach students what to do in the first 10 minutes before the ambulance arrives.
MATERIALS NEEDED: Textbook, notebook, writing utensil, a journal notebook (composition), and a willingness to learn new skills.
TEXTBOOK: First Responder, Brady Publishers, 6th edition, 2000.

Well being of the First Responder
Medical, Legal, and Ethical Issues
Anatomy and Physiology
Lifting and Moving
Airway Management
Scene Size-up/Assessment
History/VS/SAMPLE
PE of Trauma Patients
Public Safety Communications
Emergency Care of Cardiovascular, Diabetic, Respiratory, Environment, and behavioral situations.
Obstetrics
EMS Operations
Triage
Pharmacology
FIELD TRIPS: Plan to visit local fire and ambulance stations.
GRADING:
Exams/Quizzes 40%
Daily 10%
Skills 20%
Midterm 10%
Final 10%
Assessment 10%
BEHAVIOR:
Any student who misbehaves on a field trip will now be allowed to go on other trips.
All students will be in their seat when the bell rings.
Students will show respect for others.
No talking when others are talking.
Assignments will be turned in a timely manner. If you are absent from class, it is YOUR responsibility to ask for your make-up work. It will not be accepted after 5 days. If it is an unexcused absence, you will receive a 0 for the day.
