Message from Dr. Stanley McCain
Superintendent, Bremen City Schools

On behalf of the Bremen City School System, I want to welcome you to the Bremen City School System web site. We are extremely proud of our school system and the academic and extra-curricular achievements of our students, and the strong parental support that our students receive at home. Examination of our students' norm referenced test scores and performance assessments reveal that we have one of the best school systems in the state. H. A. Jones Elementary, Sewell Middle School, and Bremen High School are fully accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Dr. McCain
Bremen City School System is composed of four schools, H. A. Jones Elementary, Sewell Middle School, Bremen High School, and Bremen Crossroads Academy. There are 1,674students served in grades K-12, and 101 students in the Pre-Kindergarten Program. H. A. Jones Elementary has an enrollment of 916, Sewell Middle has 358, and Bremen High School has 501. Thirty percent of our students are out-of-district students who pay tuition in order to attend the Bremen School System. These out-of-district students commute from Haralson, Carroll, and Douglas counties to attend our schools. Bremen School System is viewed by parents as a quality school system in that they want their children educated in the Bremen System.

Bremen City School System has a five member board of education elected at large. All of our board members are graduates of Bremen High School. There are 234 total employees, 132 certified and 102 classified employees. There are 113 classroom teachers, 8 administrators, and 132 support personnel. Of the certified staff we have 1-T-2,  35 with T-4 certificates, 67 with T-5's, 26 with T-6's, and 3 with a T-7. When one analyzes the success of the Bremen School System, one will find that it is due to our having a unified, focused board of education, highly motivated and effective administrators, a caring, extremely qualified staff, and the on-going support of the community.

Bremen City Schools is an example of how parental and community support can make a difference in the quality of education. Effective school research states that effective schools have the following common factors: a focus upon teaching and learning, a guaranteed and viable curriculum, professional leadership, shared vision and goals, high expectations for staff and all students, safe and orderly school environment, frequent monitoring of student progress, and strong parental and community involvement. As you evaluate the Bremen City School System you will find that all of these elements are present in our school system. Under the "No Child Left Behind" requirements for achievement all of our schools made Adequate Yearly Progress and were classified as Safe Schools. According to 2006 Governor's Office of Educational Accountability, 94.6% of our students in elementary made or exceeded standards set for adequate yearly progress in math and in reading 92.8% met or exceeded standards.  In our middle school and 89.1% students met or exceeded standards in math and 94.9 met or exceeded standards in reading. AT Bremen High School, 82.9% met or exceeded standards set for Math and 95.5% met or exceeded standards set for English/Language Arts. Our average highest SAT scores for graduating seniors in 2006 were 1504.

Other factors attributing to the success of our school system are that there are shared values or principles upon which we operate. The first is that children are the center focus of the system. Decisions are based upon what is best for students. Secondly, there is the belief that teaching is the key to the educational process. Our schools have an instructional focus with high expectations for behavior and academics. Finally, there is the attitude of teamwork which prevails throughout the system. As a team we are all striving together to bring about improvement to our already outstanding schools.
