Called Board of Education Meeting

January 30, 2007

The Bremen Board of Education met in a called meeting on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at 7:00 a.m.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the selections of a construction manager at risk, the central office copier lease, and a possible land purchase. All board members were present.

The board heard an evaluation of the construction manager at risk proposals presented by the superintendent.  Dr. McCain stated that the recommendation of the committee evaluating the proposals came down to time and money.  The committee recommended Hughes & Lattimer of Carrollton, Georgia to be the construction manager for the renovation and modifications projects at Jones Elementary and Bremen High School utilizing state capital outlay funds and local SPLOST funding.  Hughes and Lattimer proposed to finish this summer’s project by July 31, 2007 and to charge 11 ¾% for profit, overhead, and general conditions.  Hughes and Lattimer presented the best time line for completion and the lowest fees of the three proposals presented.  The board voted to approve Hughes and Lattimer as construction manager as recommended by the superintendent (Motion:  Rob Walker, Second: Gordon Parrish, vote 5-0).  On a vote of 5-0 the board approved a copier lease with Carrollton Office Equipment (Motion: Rob Walker, Second: Brandall Lovvorn).

The board went into executive session (Motion: Rob Walker, Second: Gordon Parrish, vote 5-0) to discuss the possible purchase of property for a future school site.  After discussion the board came out of executive session with no action taken (Motion: Rob Walker, Second: Gordon Parrish, vote 5-0).

            The meeting was adjourned.
