Bremen City Schools, like all systems in the state of Georgia, is
implementing the new Georgia Performance Standards in the four core curriculum
areas: English / language arts, math, science and social studies in grades
K-12. The standards and related elements define what students need to know,
understand, and be able to do. The inclusion of suggested tasks, examples of
student work, and teacher commentary demonstrates the degree of proficiency
expected for all students. Non-core courses continue to follow the Quality Core
Curriculum: career /technical courses, music, physical education, art, foreign
languages, and drama. The state curriculum establishes the minimum for what
teachers should teach and what students should know. Our system encourages
teachers, however, to incorporate extra activities and projects that stimulate
critical thinking and in-depth learning on the part of their students.
Professional learning funds are available for training
activities to meet state and federal
Mandates, to fulfill certification requirements, and to
facilitate the implementation of the system’s Comprehensive School Improvement
Plan.
