Coats' NotesMCj04238540000[1]Welcome to 7th Grade Reading.

We are currently working on the elements of literature through short stories.  We will be discussing plot, climax, conflicts, resolutions and themes.  Ask your child to summarize a story for you.

Currently, we are also working on our first project.   The students are adding a twist to their favorite childhood story.  They are allowed to change the conflicts, characters, theme, etc. but using the same story line as the original.  We have worked on this in class for two days and now it is time for them to work on the final at home.  They are very eager and excited about this project.  Lots of fun has been had and I can’t wait to see the final products.

Parents are always asking me what they can do to help their children succeed in Reading.  Research shows that students who read a half-hour or more each day have higher test scores.  Students who watch three or fewer hours of television daily scored higher on test than those who reported watching more television.  Research also shows that students who discussed their studies at home daily, weekly or monthly had higher scores than those who said they never discussed schoolwork at home.  Parent involvement is a large part of student success.

Feel free to contact me at 770-537-4874 Ext. 2048 or by email at pam.coats@bremencs.com.  Email is the best way to reach me.  I love to email parents good notes!

I do not take late work.  For excused absences, the student may turn work in the next day.  All homework and assignments are posted on the homework area of my board.  It is the student’s responsibility to copy all homework and assignments down and turn it in on time.  Please check your child’s agenda daily.  This is the best way for you to know what your child is responsible for each week.  Also, remember to sign your child’s reading logs. These are checked each Tuesday.  This is a way for all of us to keep up with AR points.

Homework  j0232988

Don’t forget to read for AR thirty minutes every night.  Parents need to sign the reading log ONE TIME FOR THE WEEK. STUDENTS MUST FILL IN MINUTES AND TITLE FOR FULL CREDIT.  STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A 100 IF THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS ARE MET, HALF CREDIT FOR HALF COMPLETION, OR A ZERO FOR HAVING NO LOG.  This is an easy 100 each week for your child.  Please help them remember. I check these on Tuesday.
