Course Syllabus

Course Objective:

          The objective of this course is to educate students about the history of the United States of America from English colonization through Clinton’s Administration. This will be accomplished through the use of class lectures, videos, movies, homework, reading and tests/quizzes.

 

Grading System:

                This course’s final grade will be broken down into the following:

           

                                    1st Nine weeks: 42.5 % of grade

                                    2nd Nine weeks: 42.5 % of grade

                                    End of Course Test: 15 % of grade

 

            Your grades will come from these particular assignments:

 

                                    Exams:                                     150 points

                                    Notebook check:                      100 points

                                    Quizzes:                                    20 points

                                    Homework:                              10 points

                                    Class participation:                    10 points

 

Materials needed for Class:

          Students will be expected to come prepared to class with textbook, class notebook (3 ring binder), notebook paper and a writing utensil (pencil, blue or black pen). Absence of these materials may result in subtraction of points in your class participation grade.

 

Examinations/Quizzes:

            Exams may include multiple choice, matching, true/false, fill in the blank, definitions and essays. Each exam may be cumulative. A review sheet may or may not be given out before each test for the students’ benefit.

 

Homework and Reading Assignments:

            All homework given will be due on the following class day unless announced otherwise. Students are responsible for the material covered in homework assignments as well as reading assignments. Pop quizzes and tests will include information that may only be covered in chapter readings.

 

 

 

 

Absences:

            Homework, quizzes and exams can be made up with an excused absence only. It will be the students’ responsibility to obtain assignments or schedule make up exams, quizzes and homework. This must be done within 2 school days of the students’ return to class. The missing work must be completed within 5 days upon the students’ return to class.

            Work that is missed due to unexcused absences CANNOT be made up.

 

Class Rules:

 

1.      Have respect for everyone and everything in the classroom.

2.      Teacher’s discretion will be used in granting all hall passes.

3.      No one will be permitted a hall pass during the first 30 minutes of class.

4.      The teacher not the bell will dismiss students.

5.      Students are expected and will keep the entire work area clean.

6.      No food or gum will be permitted in the classroom.

 

****All rules listed in the student handbook will apply to everyday classroom activities.

 

****Academic dishonesty will result in a zero for that assignment or test/quiz and school administrators will be notified along with the students’ parent(s) and/or guardian.
